about

A few months into the big 2020 lockdown, I found myself humming Jackson Browne's luminous "These Days" (and Nico's transcendent interpretation) obsessively. After a few weeks of this wonderful song pinging around in my brain I realized why: The lyrics and emotional tone mapped perfectly onto the feeling of life at the time.

I recorded my own version of "These Days" gradually over several months with the help of a dear old friend and collaborator, Dave Harrington (Darkside, Dave Harrington Group), who played bass, congas, and lap steel. Sarah Register was kind enough to master the track.

When it was done, I realized I should release it under the ARMS pseudonym, as the results tapped into another familiar feeling—one I'd mined for years in my old music & life in New York City.

So here it is, old and new, sad and hopeful, "These Days" by Jackson Browne by ARMS. Enjoy.

Love,
tg

lyrics

I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking
These days, these days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had the chance to.

I've stopped my rambling
I don't do too much gambling
These days, these days
These days I seem to think about
How all the changes came about my ways
And I wonder if I'd see another highway

I had a lover
I don't think I'll risk another
These days, these days
And if I seem to be afraid
To live the life that I have made in song
It's just that I've been losing so long

I've stopped my dreaming
I won't do too much scheming
These days, these days
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten
Please don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them
